FAQ: Gingivitis

 In News
What do you know about gingivitis? Maybe you heard the name from a mouthwash or toothpaste commercial on T.V.? This disease is very popular amongst Canadians and Americans. It is the first stage of gum disease which is caused by the build up of plaque and tartar. The good news if gingivitis is caught early, it can be treated and reversed!

Symptoms of gingivitis include red, swollen and/or tender gums. You may also notice that gums may bleed when you are brushing your teeth. Unfortunately, gum disease can also cause your gums to recede, which will give your teeth an elongated look.

To prevent gum disease from developing, maintain good oral hygiene habits. We recommend professional dental cleanings for plaque that has built up and hardened. You won’t be able to get rid of this build up with your toothbrush alone. For a dental cleaning appointment in Saint Lambert – contact us at Dr. Alaby and Associates today.
