Preventing Childhood Cavities
Your child has precious small teeth and you want to help protect them as much as you can! Preventing early childhood cavities isn’t hard, here are a few tips!
An important tip is not let your child fall asleep with a bottle. The sugars in the liquids from the bottle will sit in their mouth and around their teeth, which can lead to tooth decay. Even breast milk and formula contain sugars! In addition, do not advocate prolonging nursing or let your child fall asleep during nursing. For the same reasons, you should also refrain from letting your child walk around with a bottle in their mouth. If your child does have early childhood cavities, they can also cause:
- Tooth loss
- Ear/speech problems
- Crooked/permanent teeth
- Severe pain
- Poor self-image
- Tooth decay
Another tip is to check in with your dentist to make sure your child is getting enough daily fluoride. Contact us at Dr. Alaby and Associates for more information on protecting your child’s teeth!
