The Root Canal Treatment Procedure
If you want your teeth to last a lifetime, then you must take care good care of them through proper oral hygiene. However, there are instances that you may still experience dental problems like pulp damage due to accidental tooth injury or dental cavities.
With a root canal treatment, you can now save your teeth and make them last a lifetime. A root canal treatment is a procedure done by an endodontist. In the event that you have damaged tooth pulp, you may need to go to a dental office more than once to undergo treatment.
Here’s how the root canal procedure is performed:
First, your endodontist will put you under anesthesia. Then, an opening is made through the crown of the damaged tooth to reach the pulp chamber. Once inside the pulp chamber, the damaged pulp is removed, and the root canal is cleaned and shaped. When the root canal is already formed and polished, an endodontist will put medicine in the root canal. This medicine will help kill bacteria in the pulp chamber.
After this process, the cleaned root canal is sealed with a rubber-like material, which is temporarily placed in the tooth to prevent infection. Antibiotics are given if an infection has reached beyond the root end. Lastly, the temporary filling is removed for the next dental visit. Then, an endodontist will put a crown on your tooth to make it stronger and appear better.
