Got Dry Mouth?

 In Uncategorized

Dry mouth happens when you don’t have enough saliva to keep your mouth moist. Everyone can experience dry mouth at some point, especially when stressed, dehydrated or alcohol consumption. However, a constant dry mouth can be very uncomfortable. A lack of saliva can also cause other health problems. Saliva is very important to our bodies and without it, we cannot function in the same ways. Saliva helps to digest food, protect our teeth from tooth decay and can also help prevent infection by controlling bacteria in the mouth. The salivary glands that produce saliva may not function for a few reasons:

  • Medication Side Effects
  • Diseases such as Diabetes, Hodgkin’s, Parkinson’s, HIV/AIDS and Sjogren’s Syndrome
  • Radiation Therapy (from cancer treatment)
  • Chemotherapy
  • Menopause
  • Smoking
