Thoughts on Teen’s Teeth Whitening

 In News, Uncategorized

As a teenager you may have a few insecurities or pressures to deal with, and often appearance makes the top of that list. As a parent you’ll want to help them feel and look their best; but before you let them reach for those whitening strips, it is best to understand the options.

White Strips: they work with coating teeth in hydrogen peroxide from 15-60 mins.

In-Office: a higher dose of hydrogen peroxide is used in a short time (approx. 20 mins) while the gums are covered.

Take Home: this is where trays are customized from impressions taken of your teeth and used in combination with a whitening solution. The hydrogen peroxide concentration is lower and the treatment is recommended for about 7-10 days. The treatment is done before bed nightly.

Whitening Toothpaste: contrary to the marketing we see, this is usually the least effective method. You may only see slight improvements, since toothpaste can only help remove surface stains and can’t get below the surface.

No matter which method appeals to you, it is always best to consult a dental professional first. We would love to discuss the best option for your teen’s teeth whitening at Dr. Alaby and Associates in Saint-Lambert.
